Management of the Bariatric (Plus Size) Person

Course Aim

To provide staff with the knowledge and skills to manage a bariatric patient in a hospice setting.

 

By the end of the session participants should be able to:

  • Assess the moving and handling needs of a bariatric patient.
  • Identify the correct manual handling equipment to manage this patient.
  • Apply safe handling techniques to move a bariatric patient, reducing the risk to the lowest level reasonably practicable for both the staff and the patient.
  • Use some selected bariatric handling equipment in a safe and proficient manner.
